My name is Gord. I said some words.

If anyone’s interested in my thoughts on songwriting, influences, and just some general band related chit chat, here’s an interview I did with the Manic Pop Thrills blog, ahead of the gig they’re putting on next week, which I am honoured to be opening up.

I don’t go through life thinking there’s an empty chair next to me that I’m desperate for someone to fill, but if I meet someone I like, I’ll pull one up for them.

Science adjusts its views based on what’s observed. Faith is the denial of observation so that beliefs can be preserved.

More from Tim Minchin. Can’t get enough of this guy.

If watching ‘The Biggest Loser’, or that Bananarama album, or Tim Tams are your ‘guilty pleasures’, then that shows an incredibly low threshold for both guilt, and pleasure.

It’s Monday…

It’s my first day of college today, and I’m feeling a little philosophical about it. I probably should have done this years ago, but had I done so, I might not have experienced the things I have in the ten years or so since I left school. All the life choices I’ve made were the right choice for me at the time. No regrets.

Here’s to another adventure.

Whenever I see a square photograph, I can’t help but think ‘album cover’.

I’m going to post this every few months until I get round to making another video. Be warned. Mike (my flatmate) and I made this in my bedroom at our old flat, and it’s my first and only music video.

I went to Barcelona a few years ago (why does it seem like everything in my life happened ‘a few years ago?’) and it was smashing. I highly recommend a visit. The Sagrada Familia was of course, a highlight.

Song of the day. ‘Basket’, by Dan Mangan.

When sorting out my postcards yesterday I came across this, a postcard I’d sent my cat a few years ago. When I got home from holiday she looked me in the eye as if to say “I’m a fucking cat, dude. I can’t eat or play with this!” The picture on the right is her ‘stop taking photos of me’ face.

Anyway it’s rather lame but there you go. I thought it was funny at the time. She’s no longer with us, incidentally. I’d adopted her when she was already quite old, nobody was sure exactly how old, and she died on my birthday (selfish) a few months after the postcard was sent.

Oh, and she didn’t really have a name, I just referred to her by a variety of nicknames, hence the address. I don’t live there any more either, so your hate mail will likely remain unopened!

Postcards & Daydreaming:
I have a fondness for postcards. I don’t know why, but I found myself with a drawer full of them one day and made an effort to keep every one I was sent since then. Many have been lost under doormats and beds, disappeared in house moves and spring cleans, but some of these go back seven or eight years. The most recent addition was yesterday.
So I have just spent the entire length of Vitalogy by Pearl Jam putting these all up (had to have a cigarette break round about Better Man) and I thought I’d share them. It was fun reading them all, sort of a potted history of my own life - where I was living, who I was living with etc. Hopefully yesterdays arrival won’t be the last!
